Genevieve Rochlin '27 winner in the Helen Stein Shack Picture Book Contest

Congratulations to Genevieve Rochlin '27, who was named a winner in the 12th annual Helen Stein Shack Picture Book Contest at the Emma S. Clark Library.

The contest invites students in grades 6-12 across the Three Village Central School District to write and illustrate an original children’s picture book. Established in memory of educator Helen Stein Shack, the contest reflects her deep commitment to children’s literature and the library.

Genevieve’s book, Seven Meals Around the World, follows Cooper the Goose on a journey across all seven continents, exploring new cultures, foods, and animals. Her book will be made into a hardcover by the Library and added to its Local Focus Collection.

Reflecting on her experience, Genevieve shared:

“I was really excited to be named the winner of the 12th annual Helen Stein Shack picture book contest at Emma S. Clark Library… What inspired me most was my curiosity about the world and how different places have their own cultures, foods, and even animals… My book is about a goose, Cooper, who travels across all seven continents, exploring each one and trying new foods along the way. In every place that Cooper visits, he meets a different animal that is unique to that continent… The story is meant to be both fun and educational, showing how diverse and interesting the world is. I wanted readers to feel like they were going on a journey too and have the chance to learn about new places while also enjoying the adventure of the goose.”

Contest winners were honored at a private awards ceremony on April 27, during which Genevieve receive a financial scholarship.
