At The Stony Brook School, our approach to education is founded on the belief that academic excellence is inseparable from character development. Our faculty members, who are passionate educators and mentors, guide students through a curriculum that not only challenges them intellectually but also encourages them to explore the deeper questions of life and meaning, preparing students to navigate the complexities of the world with integrity and purpose.
Central to our educational philosophy is integrating faith and learning, which permeates every aspect of the Stony Brook experience. In courses such as "Faith and Culture," students engage in thoughtful discussions about the intersection of Christian theology with other world religions, grappling with questions of morality, purpose, and spirituality. This interdisciplinary approach encourages students to understand their beliefs and values, preparing them to engage with diverse perspectives and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
Integration of Faith and Learning
At The Stony Brook School, faith and learning are inseparable. Rooted in the belief that “all truth is God’s truth,” our classrooms invite students to explore every discipline—science, literature, mathematics, and the arts—with both intellectual rigor and spiritual purpose.
Teachers guide students to see how every field of study reflects God’s order and beauty, fostering wisdom that leads to both understanding and service. As our founding headmaster Frank Gaebelein wrote, the goal is to bring “life and thought into captivity to Christ,” so that knowledge is always pursued in light of truth, goodness, and faith.

Mini-Courses
The Mini-Course Program expands learning beyond the classroom through short, intensive experiences that promote curiosity, collaboration, and creativity. Offered twice yearly in four-day sessions, mini-courses let students pursue interests through project-based learning, research, internships, off-site labs, and field experiences. Courses change annually based on student and faculty interests. Recent offerings include Forensics, Game Theory, Rocketry, Constitutional Law, Global Business, and Cooking Around the Globe.
These courses embody SBS’s mission of integrating faith, intellect, and character by encouraging students to explore God’s world with imagination and purpose.
