Anna Wang Advances to National Chemistry Olympiad

Nafei Wang '28 Advances to National Chemistry Olympiad

Congratulations to Nafei (Anna) Wang, who has qualified for the USA Chemistry Olympiad National Exam—the first student in our school’s history to reach this level of competition.

Anna’s achievement places her among the top high school chemistry students in the nation. The USNCO National Exam will be held at Iona University, where she will compete alongside other top qualifiers from across the country.

From there, the highest-performing students will be invited to the prestigious National Study Camp, taking place May 31–June 13. Finalists selected from this intensive program will go on to represent the United States at the International Chemistry Olympiad, held this year from July 10–19 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

For Anna, that journey began in the classroom.

“AP Chemistry with Dr. Gao is what pulled me into chemistry. I became captivated by the intricacies of equilibrium and kinetics, and later organic chemistry. Our labs, especially the ones where we designed our own experiments, inspired me and built the hands-on intuition that helped me on the exam. Qualifying for nationals has only made me more motivated to go deeper next year.”

We are incredibly proud of Anna for reaching this historic milestone and representing The Stony Brook School with distinction on the national stage.
