Year of the Horse Art Show

Earlier this month, Brookhaven Town Hall welcomed the Asian American Association of Greater Stony Brook (AAAGSB) for its annual art show celebrating Lunar New Year and the Year of the Horse Art Show

Organized in partnership with the Town of Brookhaven and the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Advisory Board, the event brought artists, performers, students, and the community together to celebrate cultural traditions through visual and performing arts.

The exhibition welcomed submissions from residents across the Town of Brookhaven and throughout Long Island, receiving more than 180 entries this year. Submissions included works horse-inspired paintings, calligraphy, and three-dimensional pieces. Due to limited gallery space, fewer than 50 curated pieces were selected for display inside Brookhaven Town Hall.

Now in its sixth year, the AAAGSB Lunar New Year Art Show continues to grow in both scale and impact. This year marked the fourth time the show has been featured as a month-long exhibit at Brookhaven Tall Hall.

In addition to the artwork on display, the closing ceremony featured live performances by students. Many performers shared how meaningful it was to take part in an event that highlights both creativity and community.

“It was really fun being able to perform alongside my friends. The Art-Show was a great opportunity for different students to show their talents and hobbies.” -Jasmine Wei ‘30

Student performers also appreciated the joyful atmosphere and the chance to share their passions with the public.

“I performed a K-pop dance to Golden with two of my friends at the Town of Brookhaven Art Show, and it was really a fun experience. We did it mostly for fun, and it was nice to share something upbeat with the community and see people enjoy it. It was a great way to perform together and enjoy the moment.” -Josephine Wei ‘30

The closing ceremony was hosted by student leader Angelina Zhang, who reflected on the event's significance and its continued evolution.

“It's always a pleasure and honor to host the Asian American Association of Greater Stony Brook (AAAGSB)'s Lunar New Year Art Show Closing Ceremony at the Town of Brookhaven. I've had the privilege of hosting this event with four different partners over the last four years, and I love the excitement and freshness that each year brings. Each year, the talented artists and vibrant performances bring me immense joy, and I look forward to passing on the torch to younger students in the coming year.-Angelina Zhang ‘26
