Lina Wang places 5th in prestigious math competition

Lina Wang '27 earns 5th place in prestigious math prize for girls competition.

Over 250 of the brightest young female mathematicians from across the United States and Canada gathered at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for the Advantage Testing Foundation/Jane Street Math Prize for Girls, the largest mathematics competition for young women in the world.

This year,  11th grader Lina Wang earned an extraordinary 5th-place finish, distinguishing herself among some of the most talented problem-solvers in North America. Along with this honor, Lina received a $4,000 award in recognition of her outstanding performance. 

The Math Prize for Girls is widely regarded as the most prestigious math competition for young women in North America. Admission to the competition is by invitation only and based on exceptional performance on the American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) and American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME)

Lina’s achievement is a testament to her exceptional mathematical talent, perseverance, and intellectual curiosity. Her success not only reflects her individual dedication but also highlights the strength of The Stony Brook School’s academic environment, which encourages students to pursue excellence in both character and scholarship.
