Congratulations to John Duggal '27 for being named as one of Newsday's Top 50 Boys Cross Country Runners on Long Island.
Newsday highlighted John’s accomplishments among Long Island’s best: “As a sophomore, he ran 17:10 at Bethpage. He ran in three invitationals at Sunken Meadow and got better each time, going from 19:04.14 to 18:36.8 and finishing at 18:32.7. He also owns Long Island’s best time at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx at 18:05.8”
John’s talent and accomplishments are not the only reason he plays a significant role on the team. Jake Morley, Head Cross Country Coach, has led a very successful program over the years and sees John as one of those runners that is truly special: “John has really embraced his role as leader and captain for our team. He leads in both word and deed as he brings a firm yet supportive approach to the team's younger runners. I have enjoyed watching John grow in confidence as a leader, speaker, and runner, and it has been very encouraging to see the positive camaraderie that has developed under his leadership from last spring into this fall. John holds himself to high standards, and he has improved by an extraordinary amount since he was in middle school: his 5K times have dropped by 10 minutes since he was an eighth grader!”
Only a Junior, John will look to continue to garner more records and is on track to finish as one of the top runners the school has seen in recent memory.
