On Friday, October 17, The Stony Brook School community gathered to celebrate the dedication of Daley Hall, a new boys’ dormitory made possible through the generosity of Clayt Daley ’69.
Speakers included Mr. Daley, Head of School Josh Crane, Chairman of the Board Michael Koh '88, Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico, and student Matteo Lopez ’27. The ceremony featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the official dedication of the building, which welcomed students at the start of the school year. After the dedication, guests enjoyed a reception and guided tours of the new building.
The Town of Brookhaven featured a story about the dedication, watch it here.
Mr. Daley reflected on his time at The Stony Brook School, "When I was here (The Stony Brook School), sophomores were required to take a course in speech. I absolutely hated that course, as a 14-year-old kid, standing up in front of the class, giving a speech was the last thing I wanted to do. I dreaded that class, but 35-40 years later, what am I doing? I'm appearing on CNBC, I'm appearing on Bloomberg Television, and I'm giving speeches to Wall Street with 200-300-400 people in the room. I'm speaking to my organization at Procter & Gamble. So I can argue that the course I hated the most was maybe the most single valuable course taken in my entire educational career, and so you have to think and remember about things like that when you think about where you give back. And that's why Meredythe and I are so happy to support this project...and we couldn't be happier with what's behind us. (Daley Hall)"
Daley Hall houses 52 boys and includes four faculty apartments, as well as the school’s Business Office and IT Department. Following the program, guests enjoyed a reception and guided tours of the facility.
The dedication marked an important milestone in our continued investment in student life and campus infrastructure, celebrating a vision many years ago that has now become a reality.
