The Stony Brook School offers a co-ed sailing program with Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Learn to Sail teams, competing in both fall (late August–mid-November) and spring (March–early June) seasons. Over 30+ years, the program has evolved into a competitive force at district and national levels.
Sailing is a year-round sport, with a winter program meeting three days a week—two in the gym and one in the classroom for rules, speed, tactics, and mental prep. While not for athletic credit, this training gives us a competitive edge for spring. The team also competes in the Rose Bowl Regatta in California each January and spends February break training in St. Croix, USVI, maximizing preparation with ideal conditions.
