The Stony Brook School offers a post-graduate program for students who have completed their high school diploma but who want to take another year of high school courses and co-curriculars to better prepare for college. This program is for graduating seniors who want to improve their college acceptance and scholarship prospects and for those who want another year to develop academically, athletically, and spiritually. Post-graduates are fully integrated into the student body as members of the senior class. For those looking to bridge the gap between high school and college, there is no better place than the Brook!
To prepare students for elite college acceptances, The Stony Brook School offers a wide variety of AP and College-Level courses for post graduates along with some Stony Brook distinctive courses. Working with the Academic Dean and the College Counseling Team, post graduates design their own course of study, ensuring maximal motivation and performance. Post graduates take our capstone class, Faith and Culture in the 21st Century, and then choose from a wide range of amazing courses.
Additionally, post graduates participate in our innovative interdisciplinary, project-based mini-courses
, and they get to select their courses first along with the seniors, ensuring that they almost always get their first choice each session.
We view athletics as a vital co-curricular component to our educational program. Post-graduate athletes have access to outstanding facilities, year-round training, and opportunities for exposure. However, our focus goes beyond athletic resume building. At Stony Brook our student-athletes are challenged to reach their athletic potential in a program that encourages the growth of the whole person--mind, body, and spirit--to ensure they are poised for success beyond The Brook. A full list of our athletic offerings can be found here
. Questions about specific programs can be directed to Dan Hickey, our Director of Athletics, at email@example.com.
The Stony Brook School offers many leadership opportunities, clubs and councils, service, and after school activities of which post graduate students can avail themselves. These include Theatre, Robotics, Ethics Bowl, Mock Trial, International Council, and Math and Science Competitions, and a wide range of weekend activities.
Targeted College Counseling
Each post graduate receives personal, intentional college guidance
from day one. Our team walks students through every step of the process, providing them with whatever they need to reach their goals, whether that be NCAA eligibility guidance, SAT and ACT prep, personal essay writing assistance, help completing applications, and advice on finding the best fit college. With our team in your corner, you will have the best shot at achieving your dreams.
Moral and Spiritual Growth
Our motto, “Character Before Career,” is the driving force behind our program. We believe that who you are at your core is more important than where you go to college, how much money you make, or how famous you become. Through our academics, co-curricular, advisory, residential life, and chapel programs, we challenge students to grow in virtue so that no matter what life throws them, they will be able to “serve the world through their character and leadership.” At the Brook, you will grow in courage, self-control, wisdom, justice, faith, hope, and love, traits that will set you apart and help you live an abundant and fulfilling life.
Whether you are a Christian seeking to strengthen your faith before heading off on your own or whether you are a person of another faith or no religious affiliation looking to explore the big questions of life, The Stony Brook School is a great place for you. Christian students are equipped with intensive discipleship
and the intellectual training needed to face any challenge secular universities might present. With a faculty full of Christian scholars and a religiously diverse student body, The Stony Brook School is the perfect gap year experience for Christian students looking to attend secular universities. Non-Christian students are respectfully challenged to consider life’s big questions and to understand and appreciate both Christian and non-Christian worldviews. Some students even discover faith while at the Brook. Wherever you are on your journey, SBS is here to walk alongside you.
